DM Notes: "Panic! at the Disco (Part 1)

Hey Dice Droppers,

It’s your friendly neighborhood Dungeon Master back again for another look at last week’s episode of Dice Drop: Evolution. We have been live for only a little over two weeks at this point, and I have to say once again thank you for another great weekend debut for the episode. We are happy that you guys are listening to our podcast and hope you are excited for what is to come.

So, without further ado…

Panic! At the Disco (Part 1)

First thing I want to address, you may have noticed by now our titling scheme. Like many shows before us, our titles take inspiration from the artforms that have inspired us and this is our way to pay homage to them. Every episode is named after a film or band who has inspired us over the years big or small and fit the theme of the episode. This week’s Panic! At the Disco, takes place in a lower district nightclub where our heroes cause a bit of havoc.

The name seemed fitting.

Second, the decision to split this episode into two parts. This is the first of many episodes that we recorded a couple of episodes worth of content at a time. Whether it is because it was a longer session than normal or just to keep ahead of our release schedule. This episode was just a longer session due to the heroes being in the club and trying to get information. Of course, this being a tabletop RPG, things must go wrong.

There are future episodes we have recorded at the time of writing that is not split in the two-part naming scheme simply because they can be naturally split and tell their own stories. We are trying to use the two-part title sparingly, but the title was too perfect this time around for both sections, we could not resist.

This episode acts as a mini dungeon for our heroes. They must navigate the nightclub and follow clues that would lead them to the source of information. Now, this episode they had a few tools going in, and resources in terms of Data and Rodney to help them if they got stuck. Being their first real mission, their “training wheels” were still on.

I must say, until the end, I was impressed with their puzzle-solving skills shown in this episode. They took the information I gave them and made their own conclusions. They tried multiple avenues to get where they needed. But, on a related note. I’m sure many of you are wondering if Allie and Elena are playing up River and Remi’s flirting skills (or lack thereof).

I can confirm…

…that was actually the best they had.

So, with that, what was your favorite part of this week’s episode? Let us know in the comments below and if you are excited for the exciting conclusion to “Panic! At the Disco”. I look forward to seeing your thoughts on this week's episode. If you have any questions, let me know and I will answer them to the best of my ability.
